This is from Revelation. Jesus says, "I hold the keys to death and hell". He took the keys from the devil and set the captives free those 3 days he was in the grave. So the picture takes place right after He took the keys from Satan. He stands in triumph with the keys in His right hand and the crown of thorns in His left.

Very awesome piece.
That's something that many Christians either forget or don't know about. He did go to hell, but only to steal the keys of death for us. :D Praise God.

Very interesting piece! This is perhaps how they expected their Saviour to be, the Rambo-like type, and instead H let Himself be killed.. they must have been disappointed. Here He looks really mighty, despite all the wounds. Good work!
